Criticism On “Rupert Murdoch: Journalism and Freedom”
February 22nd, 2012 . by adminI don’t believe Murdoch is really interested in journalism. He is interested in free advice market news-as-entertainment. There’s a difference. The people who flock to Hannity, O’Reilly and Beck are not interested in news; they’re interested in having their distorted views of the world be affirmed by equally ignorant entertainers. That’s what Murdoch would like to protect. It’s not about free speech; it’s about free markets. If truth was based on numbers of users, then heroin would certainly be considered more desirable than wheatgerm. The viewer numbers touted by FOX only prove there’s a disproportionate number of non-discriminating viewers than those who really care about fair-and-balanced reporting. So, please, Rupert, don’t put yourself on a pedestal of quality journalism and free speech. Your focus has always been the least common denominator that produces the most profits.
