About a month before graduating from college I was scheduled to attend an exit interview meeting regarding my student loans. They offered us a lot of really good debt advice about consolidation and things to look out for. Also they stressed keeping my loans separate from my husband’s. I had no idea about this law, but in the unlikely case that he dies, all of his school debt would be forgiven. If we consolidated ours all together, I would still be responsible for his! I quickly realized that there was so much about debt repayment and loan policy that I had no idea about!
