My Lawn Boy Quit

I have decided to save up money to renovate the house this year so that it looks better, but I absolutely must get a lawn mower to mow the lawn because the boy I pay to do it every fortnight does not come around anymore. I can budget $1000 for the lawn mower. I think it is also good to teach my teenage kids some responsibility, get them to do some chores around the house. Should I just get the best value lawn mower in the market? Or do you think I should invest in a really good lawn mower?
